ADC changelog

What changed from version to version, newest first. Download and instructions: ADC. Listed are the versions that were available for download; in-between versions that only ran on our test head unit are included in the next one. Ran says where a version actually ran — everything else is untested.

• CarPlay gets sluggish after the iPhone has been locked for a while (route progress stalls, the map drags slowly); unlocking fixes it. Cause still open — whether it is linked to the lane data we do not know. To try: delete the line metadata=extended in /sdcard/aiwayscp.conf and restart.
• Google Maps in CarPlay shows nothing in the cluster for us.
• Echo on calls: when you phone through the car, the other person hears an echo. Still open.
• CarPlay over a cable we have never tested: with ADC the manufacturer's cable CarPlay is switched off, and ours has never run. It may not work.
• Bluetooth music while CarPlay runs stays silent until you pick Bluetooth as the source in the car's media app — otherwise the speakers belong to CarPlay.
• App builds 102 and 104: we have seen the light mode of our menus only on 108.
• Going back to the stock firmware: the Connect app's check only covers its own Revert button. If the head unit restarts while a stock-firmware stick is plugged in, it flashes it without any check — for example after a factory reset, and on cars without the USB hub already when you switch on.
• Storage: our backups under /sdcard/OpenAiways/ stay there, even after going back to the stock firmware. If the storage is full, the next installation stops without changing anything (it needs about 50 MB).
• The first INSTALLING screen sometimes sits a little too low, so its bottom line is cut off; the following screens are fine. Only the display is affected, not the installation.
• CarPlay music and Siri don't pause the car's radio — both play at once. Switch the radio off first.
• After a phone call the radio switches on, even if it was off before (seen on app build 052; the car's own radio app does that). 0.14.34 changes this on 052 — not tested yet.
• Siri on the voice button started twice for us but did not react; later tries worked. Cause still open.
• App builds 102, 104 and 108: whether the CarPlay and Android Auto tiles appear on the home screen depends on a setting of the car that we have not checked in any car.
• Update from 0.14.15 through the Connect app: the road map does not come along. Plug the stick in once more afterwards and Speedwarning copies it (see ADC › Installing).

Connect app 1.9.41 · includes the internal version 0.14.33

• Fixed on app builds 102, 104 and 108: the left bar (home and climate) stays while CarPlay or Android Auto is shown. When it disappeared, the parking view in reverse was narrower than the screen and the parking-sensor symbols did not sit on the car; Android Auto had black bars at the sides.
• Changed: Android Auto after the car was off. If the phone is connected over Bluetooth but Android Auto does not start within 20 seconds, the head unit drops that connection so that the phone tries again; from the second try on it also restarts its hotspot (five tries at most). If the Android Auto screen stays black, it asks the phone for the picture again and goes back to the home screen after 30 seconds.
• New: Android Auto music stops the car's radio; the radio stays off until you choose it again. During Speedwarning's warning tone Android Auto goes quiet and plays on afterwards.
• Fixed on app build 052: after a phone call the radio stays off if it was off before.
• New: logs for a bug report (Connect app 1.9.41): with the ADC stick (or a stick with a folder named adc-logs) the Connect app's window shows the row “Logs for a bug report”. It saves the Android Auto, CarPlay, Bluetooth and installation logs in the folder adc-logs on the stick, without passwords and keys.
• Changed: Speedwarning 1.5.3 copies the road map by itself from the adc-data folder of a plugged-in ADC stick and shows the progress. Its warning tone follows the music volume (at least level 10) instead of the call volume.
• Changed: the turn-by-turn display in the instrument cluster covers a slightly larger area, so that no lighter strip remains at its right and bottom edge.
• Ran: in our daily car (app build 052) on 2 November: installed from the stick; CarPlay works, Speedwarning shows the speed limits. Not run yet: 0.14.34 on app builds 060, 102, 104 and 108 — there also the left bar next to CarPlay and Android Auto and the parking view; Android Auto after the car was off; Android Auto music with the radio and the warning tone; the radio after a call on 052; the logs for a bug report; Speedwarning's map copy and the volume of its warning tone; the larger area in the instrument cluster.

Connect app 1.9.40 · includes the internal versions 0.14.16 to 0.14.31

• New: app build 108 gets the same as 052, 060, 102 and 104 — our menus, the home screen and the darker screen.
• New: Speedwarning — the speed limit of the road you are on. The road map for Europe and Israel is on the install stick; the installation copies it into the car's app storage.
• New: Siri on the steering-wheel voice button while CarPlay is connected: hold the button, speak, release. Without a phone the button opens the CarPlay pairing; during a call it does nothing. The message “Please connect to the mobile phone before use” no longer appears.
• New: the radio pauses during phone calls (Bluetooth, CarPlay and Android Auto) and plays on afterwards.
• New: calls have their own volume. During a call the knob sets it; the car keeps it for the next call, and the music volume stays as it was. A call volume still at the factory setting is raised once to the middle on the first call.
• New: light mode on app builds 102, 104 and 108: in the car's light display mode our menus, pages and tiles look like the car's own.
• Fixed on app builds 102, 104 and 108: after one of our apps, the left bar (home and climate) stayed in the wrong colours until the next restart.
• Changed: one stick, one pass. The install stick also carries the road map, and the installation copies it in the same pass. Leave the stick in until the screen asks you to pull it. Afterwards the update files on the stick move into the folder adc-parked, so that a restart does not install again.
• Changed: the installation no longer starts over part-way, and it always ends with a normal start of the car.
• Changed: the Connect app installs an update straight from the stick; nothing is copied into the car first. This applies from this version on — an update from 0.14.15 still runs through the old Connect app and does not bring the road map (see ADC › Installing).
• Changed: Exit in Android Auto leads to the car's home screen; an empty CarPlay screen without a phone closes after 45 seconds.
• Changed: Settings › Connect › T-Box and SSH › SSH TBox are greyed out — the T-Box comes later as a separate step.
• Ran: in our daily car (app build 052) on 30 October: installed from the stick through the Connect app in one pass, road map included, without warnings; two calls through CarPlay — the radio paused and came back, the call volume was raised once from 10 to 20; Siri ran (on the voice button it started twice but did not react; later tries worked). In-between versions on our test head unit: 0.14.20 with the road map on app build 060, 0.14.27 on app build 108 with light mode and the left-bar fix. Not run yet: 0.14.32 on app builds 060, 102, 104 and 108; Bluetooth and Android Auto calls with the new call volume; the knob during a call; how the other person hears you.

Connect app 1.9.33

• New for app build 102: the same menus as on 052, 060 and 104 — the modified Settings with the home screen, the Connect menus and the darker screen. Up to 0.14.14, 102 got only the core and the end screen said “UPDATE INCOMPLETE”.
• Changed: when the Connect app refuses an update because the internal storage is too small, it now names the whole requirement (the package plus an 8 MB reserve) and points to the factory-reset stick, which needs no room for a copy.
• Ran: on our test head unit with app build 102, starting from the stock firmware, installed from the stick via factory reset — the installation went through. Not yet checked one by one on 102: the menus and the dark brightness steps; the update through the Connect app from 0.14.14 has not been installed yet.

Connect app 1.9.30

• New: a darker screen. The brightness slider in Settings › Display and in the panel that drops down at the top right of the home screen has 15 steps instead of 10: the lower five are darker than the former minimum, the upper ten are the former steps. The slider deliberately never switches the screen off completely. The chosen step survives a restart.
• Changed: the lane arrows in the instrument cluster are a third lower.
• Ran: the brightness on our test head unit (app build 052): both sliders, all five dark steps measured; the step across a restart with the previous version of the Connect app. The lower lane arrows in our daily car (app build 052), looked at there in the preview. On app builds 060 and 104 the brightness is not tested; the 0.14.14 package itself has not been installed yet.

Connect app 1.9.28 (unchanged)

• New: lanes in the instrument cluster. At junctions with several lanes the display shows the lanes instead of the big arrow — white the ones to take, grey the others. For that the head unit now also asks the iPhone for the lane data (setting metadata=extended in /sdcard/aiwayscp.conf, added by every installation that does not have it yet; delete the line = off).
• Fixed: the “then” line under the instruction sometimes named the street you turn off instead of the one you turn into.
• Changed: exits show a diagonal arrow instead of a right-angled one.
• Ran: in our daily car (app build 052) with CarPlay and Apple Maps: the lanes (seen), and the iPhone accepted the lane data; the corrected “then” line and the diagonal exit arrow ran there too, but were not checked separately at a real exit. The 0.14.13 package itself has not been installed yet; Android Auto with lanes not tested.

Connect app 1.9.28 · includes the internal versions 0.14.10 and 0.14.11

• Fixed: the iPhone connects over Bluetooth and drops again and again, CarPlay does not start. It happened after several CarPlay starts since switching on (from about the seventh); only a restart helped. All 0.14 versions were affected.
• New: turn-by-turn in the instrument cluster (right-hand display), without an extra app: arrow, distance, road or direction, the exit as a grey sign, and the next instruction when it follows soon. It comes from CarPlay navigation apps that send the car directions (for us Apple Maps and ABRP) and from Android Auto. It disappears when the navigation ends, the app changes or CarPlay ends.
• New: Settings › Connect › CarPlay shows, at the bottom, the CarPlay hotspot's name and password.
• New: Settings › Connect › Wi-Fi networks: the networks the car joins — order, edit, add, delete. The Connect app's old page now opens Settings › Connect.
• New: Settings › Connect › SSH shows the SSH web page's address (http://<IP>:8080/) and switches it on and off at once. It is reachable over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
• Changed: on a car without ADC (e.g. after the backup stick) the Connect app only does its USB-stick functions and leaves Bluetooth, the hotspot and CarPlay alone — it got in the way of external wireless CarPlay adapters.
• Fixed: the ADB switch in Settings › Connect now really restarts the ADB service.
• Ran: in our daily car (app build 052) the Bluetooth fix, Connect 1.9.24 with the Wi-Fi networks page, and the turn-by-turn display clearing (with the previous display app); on our test head unit (052) Connect 1.9.28 with the hotspot and SSH lines. Not run yet: the CarPlay app's cluster display in a car (only as a picture on the test head unit), the menus for 060 and 104, and the 0.14.12 package itself.

Connect app 1.9.22 · includes the internal version 0.14.8

• New: two-finger zoom in Android Auto — maps zoom with two fingers. Rotating doesn't work; Android Auto apparently doesn't allow it on the car screen.
• Fixed: 0.14.7 read the MCU version wrongly (e.g. “702” instead of “060”). So when reverting it refused every stock-firmware stick with a different app build, even fitting ones — such as the 060 stick in a car with 052. It only ever refused too much; it never let an unsuitable stick through.
• Changed: the message for an unsuitable stock-firmware stick is now short and writes the versions the way Settings › About does: “Stock version _104 denied. Incompatible with MCU _060.”
• Ran: on our test head unit (app build 060): installation, the stick check (104 stick correctly refused) and two-finger zoom (with the same program files). CarPlay not re-tested.

Connect app 1.9.19

• New: a safeguard when reverting to the stock firmware: the Connect app refuses a stock-firmware stick whose apps do not fit your car's MCU (Head unit versions), and then changes nothing.
• Bug (fixed in 0.14.9): the MCU version was read wrongly, so fitting sticks with a different app build were refused too.
• Ran: only after it was published, on our test head unit (060): installation without warnings, Android Auto ran. The stick check correctly refused the 104 stick, but named a wrong MCU number.

Connect app 1.9.18 · includes the internal versions 0.14.3 to 0.14.5

• New for app builds 060 and 104: the same menus as on 052 — Android Auto with switch, page and tile, a WLAN switch of its own, switching phones with one tap in the Bluetooth menu. Up to 0.14.2 these builds got only the core without our menus.
• Fixed: in 0.14.2 the Connect app copied an old version of the SSH server back every 5 minutes; it no longer does.
• Ran: on our test head unit (060): installation in one pass (45 seconds), Android Auto (also after a restart), switching phones; CarPlay ran there with the in-between version 0.14.5. On 104 the in-between version 0.14.4 ran with CarPlay; the 104 menus of 0.14.6 have not run on any device yet.

Connect app 1.9.17 · includes the internal versions 0.13.5, 0.14.0 and 0.14.1

• New: wireless Android Auto (experimental) — off after installation, switch it on under Settings › Connect › Android Auto. Only one runs at a time: Android Auto or CarPlay.
• New: switching phones — tap a paired phone in the Bluetooth menu: it connects and starts CarPlay or Android Auto, and the previous one is disconnected.
• New in CarPlay: two-finger zoom; the car icon takes you back to the car's home screen.
• Smoother CarPlay: the head unit sends its second picture (over HDMI to the instrument cluster) at 45 instead of 22.4 Hz. That had held CarPlay back to about 22 frames per second; now it's about 27–30 (measured in one car, with 0.14.0 and this setting made by hand). The cap is now 30 frames per second.
• New: an up-to-date SSH server (dropbear 2026.94) with scp and sftp; the keys survive restarts.
• Changed: WLAN (the car as a Wi-Fi client) is off after installation. An update keeps what you have set. If the installer can't put something in place, it ends with “UPDATE INCOMPLETE” instead of “OK”.
• Fixed: the installer did not always recognise our own menus from an earlier version and then skipped them without saying so. 0.13.4 also set the CarPlay frame rate to a fixed 50 (in one car about 2 seconds of lag when swiping).
• App builds 060 and 104 got only the core in this version, without our menus; the “UPDATE INCOMPLETE” ending is expected there.
• Ran: on our test head unit (052): installation, SSH with scp, CarPlay. In a community member's car (060): installed twice (with the expected “UPDATE INCOMPLETE”) and removed twice with the rollback stick — both rollbacks completed. The in-between version 0.14.0 ran in a car with 052.

Connect app 1.9.12 · the first version available for download

• Bluetooth, CarPlay and the connection menus run on our own code instead of the manufacturer's: wireless CarPlay over the car's 5 GHz hotspot, Bluetooth with pairing, music with track info, hands-free calls with call audio and phone book.
• Settings › Connect with pages for CarPlay, SSH, Ethernet (USB network adapter) and ADB; the home screen shows the connected phone and the network status.
• USB sticks: the Connect app shows what's on a stick — an ADC update, the stock firmware or the 3D parts catalogue — with the matching action.
• A self-test after every start (/sdcard/OpenAiways/selftest.txt), an installation log (/cache/oa-install.log), a rollback stick for removal.
• Ran: in a car (052) on 9 October. The core ran, but our menus from an earlier version were skipped and the frame rate was too high — both corrected by hand, fixed in the installer with 0.14.2.

Older test versions (0.9 to 0.13.3, from 25 September 2026) only ran on our own devices and were never available for download.
